Introducing Zoom Text 10

From The Desk Of Aaron Joiner @ Wisdom Ware
Introducing Zoom Text 10
The developer of zt have created a new version of Zoom Text, they have truly outdone them selves since I have been an authorized dealer for over 15 years.
The new ZoomText Camera feature allows you to use any high-definition (HD) webcam to view and magnify printed items and other objects right on your computer screen—including bills, magazines, photographs, medicine labels, craft items and more.

The ZoomText Recorder allows you to turn text from documents, webpages, email, etc. into audio recordings that you can transfer to on your mobile device and listen to at your convenience. Recordings can be saved directly to a ZoomText Recorder playlist in iTunes or Windows Media Player and automatically synced to your mobile device. Each recording is created using your choice of ZoomText voices or any other voices available on your system.

ZoomText’s Background Reader allows you to listen to documents, webpages, email, etc. while you simultaneously perform other tasks. You simply select the text you want to listen to and press the Background Reader hotkey, Background Reader begins reading the text while you go about other work. At any time you can pause and resume reading and skim forward and backward by word or sentence.
ZoomText’s Enhanced WebFinder allows you to search webpages for specific words or phrases, or skim through pages to find items of interest. As you navigate through the page each item you come to is highlighted and announced. When an item of interest is found you can have WebFinder start reading aloud from that location. If the item is a link to another page you can have WebFinder execute the link and continue your search on the new page.

Opportunity To Mentor Blind Or Low Vision

We have received this as an email forward from a reliable technology center and thought it would be appropriate to share.

We work at the Research & Training Center on Blindness & Low Vision at Mississippi State University and we are conducting a study that will evaluate the effectiveness of a mentoring program on the experiences and employment outcomes of students who are blind and are graduating from college and graduate programs across the United States. Participants will be randomly assigned to conditions in which half of the students will be paired with mentors and half of the students will be provided with resources relating to career development. Students and their mentors, who are also blind, will be recruited to participate in the project. Students will be matched with mentors who work close by, thus allowing for face-to-face meetings in the mentor’s workplace. We will examine the influence of a mentor relationship on various outcome measures including: employment outcomes (e.g. job placement, job fit, and job satisfaction), self-efficacy, and development of job-seeking skills.

We anticipate that participants will find this program to be highly beneficial. Potential benefits for students include: assistance in career goal development, skills training, job seeking, job placement, and opportunities for job shadowing. We expect that mentors will benefit from the opportunity to work closely with blind mentees to provide professional development and assistance. This research is funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.

We have received CSAVR approval for this project. We are requesting that you help us recruit participants for this project by distributing the enclosed materials on our behalf to people who may be interested. The flyers direct potential participants to complete an online survey that we will use to determine their eligibility for the project and to later match mentees and mentors based on their location and career fields. We have included our recruitment materials in braille, print, and electronic versions on cd for your convenience.

It is important that we reach as many people as we can across the United States, and we appreciate your help in spreading the word. Please feel free to share the materials and the body of this message with others that you think may know someone who would be interested in participating.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this request. Please contact Jamie O’Mally at 662-325-2001 or at rrtc2@colled.msstate.edu if you have any questions or require additional information.

Thank you!

Grants For The Disabled

We thought you would want to know about this because adaptive technology is in high demand, but not many can afford it!

Blanche Fischer Foundation has been around since the early ’80s. Since that time, it is (conservatively) estimated that the Foundation has granted close to $1 million in individual grants to people with physical disabilities in Oregon. The average grant award is $600. Applicants need to meet three criteria: 1. Must be an Oregon resident. 2. Must have a disability of a physical nature. 3. Must demonstrate financial need.
The application is available on our website, www.bff.org. It is also available via the US mail. (Applications are mailed the same day they’re requested.) Please call Kristi at 503.246.4941 with any questions, or contact us Wisdom Ware 503 848-3720 or 888 203-4153 if interested we as that you go through us as authorized dealers of adaptive technology.
